I AM A WOMAN WHO
Chesney

I am a woman who gave my daughter up for adoption. It was 10 December
1974 and I was married but it wasn't my husband's baby. He gave
me the choice of keeping my baby or giving her up for adoption.
I chose adoption because I wanted to give her a better chance to
have a better life than what I could give her. It was a grey adoption
in the state of Virginia. The doctor was the go-between. I was given
only a little bit about the couple who were adopting my daughter
and they were told only a little about me. I gave birth nearly 6
weeks early and I had problems as did the baby.
The next morning the cleaning woman came in and asked if I was
about to go home. I said No, I just had a baby. She wanted to know
what I was doing in that room
that was the room the doctors
put the women in who were having abortions. Ten minutes later the
pediatrition came in and asked if I was the woman giving the baby
up for adoption. I said yes, he turned around and walked out the
door
! and as he went out I asked if my baby was ok
the door shut and I thought, RATS!!! He didn't hear me
the
door reopened and he came back in and said, I make it a point NEVER
to talk to women who give their babies up for adoption.
Then less than 1/2 hour later my doctor came in
not the one
I'd been working with but his partner. This doctor said he'd made
a decision and he decided not to let me see my daughter or hold
her
and he didn't care what my doctor had said. I never saw
my baby again. It took me years to get over it
if I ever really
did.
Last year my daughter who is 1 year, 2 days and 1 minute younger
than her sister got a computer and went searching. She went to the
website for the state of Virginia and put her request in. Within
less than 10 minutes she got a call on the phone telling her she
had a solid hit and that evening the two sisters were talking to
each other for the first time. We have gotten together and it has
been so amazing. We are so much alike
down to what we read,
how we read, what we like for music and so much more.
It was 27 years to finally hold her in my arms for the first time
but it was great. I know not everyone gets the answers but for all
of you who are searching
I wish you luck and best wishes.
I hope everyone's search can end like ours.
